The Morning After

01/01/2015

Poor January 1st. After weeks of preparations, celebrations and a night of frenetic excess, nobody really pays attention to the actual beginning of the new life cycle. Around ten in the morning, I looked out of the window only to notice that time had stopped. Nothing was moving, not even the clouds. The snow was on hold and the deserted streets looked rather like at the end of an era.

The mornings after can be slightly disappointing. Brunches made of black coffee and cigarettes, aspirin five times a day to cure the hangover, waking up with a complete lack of memory concerning the night before, waking up with the wrong people in the wrong town - only to find out that it’s just another day on the same planet. Those wanting to forget, will see that the only change has happened to their swollen faces; those wanting to remember, will have to use their imagination.

And yet, something’s different to the night before. It’s the morning after and its smell of things to come.
